Channels Ganguly gets lifeline from ICC By: Debasish Datta November 16, 2004 Kolkata: In a major relief for Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, the International Cricket Council held back its two-Test ban on him and said he could play international cricket till a judgement is given on a possible appeal by the Board of Control for Cricket in India against the punishment.

Ganguly was set to miss the two-Test series against South Africa after ICC match referee Clive Lloyd had held him guilty of the charge of slow over-rate by India against Pakistan last week.

Ganguly is now certain to play the first Test against the Proteas in Kanpur.
I am really happy that I have been cleared to play in Kanpur. I am relieved because I think I will be given a let-off now since the ICC has given this reduction, Ganguly told Mid Day yesterday.

Ganguly said that he had met Jagmohan Dalmiya yesterday.

I spent a lot of time with him yesterday and today. He told me that he would do whatever was possible. I am really happy that the BCCI has stood by me, the captain said.

Dada, however, refused to comment on the Kanpur Test.

I dont want to talk about it at the moment. In the morning I didnt know I would be playing the Test. It is a very happy moment for me. And let me enjoy it.

The ICC has given Ganguly a lease of life as far as the first Test is concerned.

But will Ganguly play in front of his home crowd in Kolkata for the second Test remains to be seen. Email this article Print this article Post / View comments
