Jamaican held for carrying cartridges By: A Mid Day Correspondent October 22, 2004 The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) caught a Jamaican national for allegedly carrying cartridges at the international airport on Thursday morning.
According to a CISF official at the airport, Peter Dean Manrow (40) of Kingston was to board the Cathay Pacific flight CX 750 to Hong Kong at 4:55 am. During the security check and routine frisking, 13 rounds of .9mm calibre were found in his handbag.
During questioning by CISF officials, Manrow revealed that he had carried the rounds by mistake and he also produced a Jamaican arms licence to support his claim.
Since the Jamaican licence is not valid in India, we detained him and handed him over to the Sahar police, said the CISF official.
According to ACP airport division, Chandrakant Pawaskar, Manrow was a pharmaceutical executive and had come to Mumbai to do business with the pharmaceutical giant, Cipla.
He was booked under Section 3 of the Arms Act and Section 25 of the Aircraft Act. He was produced in the Andheri court on Thursday, which has remanded him to custody till October 25, Pawaskar said.
The important thing in his favour is the Jamaican licence, and a bail is possible on those grounds.
He had kept the live round unknowingly in his hand baggage, but according to the law of the land, we had to register a case. Hopefully, he would be allowed to go home soon, he added.
