The three-member Dalal family who committed suicide on March 28 from their eighth floor flat at Kemps Corner, was contemplating suicide for quite some time and had accordingly made the preparations.

According to Majeed Memon, the familys lawyer, Balkrishna Dalal (50) had left several important personal documents and jewellery with his brother-in-law, Dr Vikram Maniyar, around two to three days before the mass suicide of the three-member family.

Dalal had told his brother that the valuables could be stolen from their flat.

Besides, Balkrishna Dalal has also bequeathed his estate as the Karta of the Hindu Undivided Family to his brother-in-law.

The will also mentions, that in the event of the death of all members of the family simultaneously, Maniyar would inherit the estate. Sonals will was also found.

The Dalals had also prepared a will on March 24, naming Maniyar as the inheritor of the estate. The estate includes all the self-acquired properties consisting of shares, fixed deposits, bank balances and other assorted investments worth Rs 5 crore approximately.

The will along with an unsigned letter written by Sonal was sent by post to Maniyar, but he had received it after the incident, a week ago, said Memon.

While Maniyar did not bring up the will during the 10-day mourning period, the letter asks him to execute the will within a month, added Memon.

The Dalals were named in a criminal case of abetment of suicide of their parents; Memon was the defence lawyer. Legal steps were being taken with regard to the fate of the estate, Memon said, adding that ironically Maniyar was at the Dalals discussing cricket, just a day before the suicide.

The case relating to the abetment of suicide was closed by Additional Sessions judge S J Shah as the accused were no longer alive, Memon said.
