Jammu: In a significant development in the S A R Geelani shooting case, the Delhi police has sent the used cartridges recovered from the attack site to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for verification, as it suspected that the weapon used by the assailants was seized by the police during an anti-militancy operation in Kashmir valley in 2002, top FSL sources said here. "The Delhi police has sent the used cartridges recovered from spot where Geelani was attacked to J&K FSL here to investigate the pistol used in shooting at Prof S A R Geelani which was outsourced from Jammu and Kashmir," sources told PTI. The step was taken as the Delhi police had found that the weapon used by the assailants to target Geelani had been seized by the Parimpora police station during an anti-militancy operation in Kashmir valley. Geelani, who was acquitted by the Delhi High Court in October 2003 in the Parliament attack case, was shot at and injured outside the house of his lawyer Nandita Haksar at Vasant Enclave on February 8. The unidentified assailants had fired five shots, of which three hit Geelani. According to the sources J&K FSL has been asked to investigate forensic details of the pistol recovered by the Parimpora police station and compare it with those of cartridges used in the attack on Geelani. They said during investigations that the Delhi crime branch had reached the conclusion that the revolver used in the attack was brought to Delhi from J&K Geelani had filed a case in court alleging that the Delhi police was behind the attack.
