Bhubaneshwar: Heres one for animal rights activists. Rani, the dog, was suspended from the police department after she became involved in an illicit relationship and got herself pregnant.
But the police department has now relented and has accepted her back after Rani gave birth to six puppies.
Belonging to the Crime Branch of the state police, she was staying in Bhawanipatna where she came in contact with a pye-dog and got pregnant.
This infuriated the police department and Ashok Bhoi, the police constable in charge of Rani was placed under suspension as was Rani.
Even after Rani gave birth to the six puppies in December 2004, she continued to be neglected.
But some senior police officers took pity on her and finally Rani was reinstated in the department. She was brought from Bhawanipatna to Cuttack and nursed at the police headquarters.
Authorities have revealed that a tender will soon be floated for the sale of the pups. Rani, meanwhile, is back to her training sessions.
