Stating that the impact of electronic media has been steadily rising, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has observed that it has, however, not downplayed the importance of print media. "It was feared that the rise of electronic media would bring down the importance of print media.
But it has not happened and the print media still continues to be strong," Pawar said at the diamond jubilee function of Dhule Zilla Marathi Patrakar Sangh here yesterday. He also asked the Maharashtra government to support journalists as they are one of the pillars of democracy. A cheque of Rs 84,000 was handed to the state government for group insurance scheme for journalists. Patrakar Sangh president Hemant Madane, State Higher and Technical Education Minister Sureshdada Jain, Congress MLA Rohidas Patil and Transport Minister Surupsingh Naik attended the function.
