Anand Mirajkar is in the intensive care unit of Nanavati HospitalGood Samaritan Anand Mirajkar (33) was riding his bike with a friend on the Borivli-Kandivli flyover at 2 am on July 8 when he saw two men lying in the middle of the road.
They were bleeding profusely and crying for help. Goregaon resident Mirajkar and his friend Sachin Madavlekar (24) stopped to help.
They parked the bike on the side of the road, near the end of the flyover, and rushed to their aid.
Birthday
Mirajkar, who works for a courier company and had celebrated his 33rd birthday the previous day, grabbed one of the men and was about to carry him to the edge of the road with Madavlekars help when a speeding Santro hit him and sped away. Madavlekar recalled, As we were carrying him, I dropped my helmet. Just as I bent down to pick it up, Anand was run over.
Everyone fled
It was unfortunate that the rickshawallahs fled the scene instead of helping us. Money was not the issue then, humanity was, said Madavlekars brother Rajesh, who rushed to Mumbai from their hometown Belgaum, Karnataka.
Sachin Madavlekar, Anands friendWait for help
Madavlekar said he waited over half an hour in desperation, when a man in an Indica stopped to help. He drove the three injured men to Nanavati Hospital, where Mirajkar was put in intensive care.
Madavlekar said bitterly, The men who we helped were not as badly injured as Anand and were discharged in two days. But they did not even think to console or thank us.
Mirajkar, meanwhile, has since undergone neurosurgery but is still in critical condition. Dr Nitin Rathod said, He has been diagnosed with intra-cerebral haematoma and is in a coma. But he is recovering quickly now.
His hospital bills are expected to cross Rs 3 lakh, not including medicine. His family has already sold their village property and spent all their savings to foot the Rs 1.1 lakh bill so far.
Mirajkars mother said, His good nature has proved to be disastrous. I can only hope someone will come forward to help us, as this is beyond our capacity. You can help Anand
