Patna: Bihar Governor Buta Singh today ordered a probe into the reported use of a mobile phone by Santosh Jha, a prime accused in the multi-crore flood relief scam, who is lodged in the Beur jail here.

"This is an extremely serious matter and I have ordered an inquiry," he told reporters at his secretariat chamber.

Jha, a supplier of relief materials and a prime accused in the case along with fugitive former Patna district magistrate Gautam Goswami, was shown on a private TV news channel making a threatening call to his estranged wife Rachna, who stays with her brother Chandan in Delhi.

Rachna has been demanding custody of her two children living with Santosh, who was also reportedly pressuring his wife to give a written statement that a flat purchased by him was given to him in dowry.

Several mobile phones have been seized during raids in the Beur prison in the past, including one from controversial RJD MP from Madhepura Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, who was later shifted to the high security Tihar Jail on the orders of the Supreme Court on charges of carrying on illegal activities from behind bars.

Meanwhile, the investigation bureau of the vigilance department, probing the Rs 17 crore relief scam, has recommended enhanced security to Jha, apprehending serious threat to his life.
