12-year-old Arijit Sengupta, currently recuperating in Jaslok Hospital, hopes to be back home in JulyArijit Sengupta (12) cannot wipe the grin off his face as he listens to the title track of Dhoom in Jaslok Hospital. Having undergone a kidney transplant just a week ago, Arijit is excited about beginning life anew.
On May 26, Mid Day reported how Arijits family was seeking funds for the operation. Says his father, Indrajit and mother, Shikha, We were overwhelmed by the response we got from people. I got all kinds of messages and phone calls, from as far away as Dubai and the United States. Everybody wanted to help, says Shikha.
So far, the family has collected Rs 2.52 lakh, some of which was raised after the Mid Day story.
The operation took place on June 16. Everything has gone off smoothly, and hopefully Arijit will be discharged by the first week of July, says Shikha.
Job offer
Indrajit, who donated his kidney, was discharged on June 25. Presently unemployed, he got a job offer through the Mid Day story. I plan to take it up, once I feel fit enough, says Indrajit who has been advised bed rest for a month.
Vada pavs
Busying himself with GI Joes and Twinkle comics, Arijit is eager to go home. Im looking forward to home-cooked food, but vada pav still tops my most-wanted list, smiles Arirjit. He will be at home for the next one year and will go to school from 2006.
