Nivedita Hosbekar and (inset) George Paul10.19 am: Neve, I regret everything I had with u. Seriously you are in need of help. I still wonder what I have done to you that you hurt me so much. Neve, since we have broken up you would be looking out for someone right. Please dont do anything with him in front of me. I am not that strong also. I am sorry for raising my hand on you, Neve.
10.39 am: You are special to me no matter what, Neve. I am sorry for abusing you so much. When told to you these words have no meaning. I love you a lot. Anyways come on Saturday, please. You need to start thinking of others feelings too. Please. Please.
12.31 pm: Open the door, I am standing outside.
5.47 pm: If you dont pick up in five calls, I will kill myself.
These were the last SMSes 18-year-old George Paul sent his girlfriend Nivedita Hosbekar (17) on Thursday.
Paul had allegedly beaten her up a few days previously, and was begging for forgiveness. What he did not know was that Nivedita didnt get his last message. She had killed herself.
Niveditas father, Prakash, found her dead in their Bandra home on Thursday evening. I knew that she was seeing George, but ignored it.
Yesterday her friends told me that he used to beat her up and traumatise her, said Niveditas mother, Stella.
In fact George called me at 7 pm to say that Nivedita was not responding to his calls. He claimed she had lied to him about her first boyfriend. I asked him to sort out his problems with her directly, she added.
Police complaint
Stella said she would go to the police today. I will definitely lodge a complaint, because I dont want him to repeat this incident with some other girl, she said.
Prakash, Niveditas father, who works for a multinational food chain, last saw his daughter at 3 pm on Thursday, before leaving for work. Nivedita was a student of St Andrews College, Bandra.
He used to hit her
According to their friends, George a student of National College, met Nivedita through a common friend.
She had stopped talking to us for past few months. She used to avoid us, said Niveditas school friend.
We know of two instances when George had hit her. There may have been more. He never liked her meeting her old friends, said another friend.
George is the son of Varghese Paul, a partner in a swanky Bandra health spa, which caters to a number of film stars.
George is upset
The police visited Georges home to question him. Varghese Paul told Mid Day, My son has given his statement to the police. He was a good friend of Nivedita and is upset about the whole incident. However, he has no connection to her suicide.
A suicide was registered at Bandra police station last night.
