Jammu: Hizbul Mujahideen's district commander was killed in an encounter with police and Rashtriya rifles troops in a gunbattle at Daman in Doda district early today. DIG (doda-udhampur) Satvir Gupta said acting on a tip-off about the presence of Masood Ahmad Natnoo alias Haqani alias Younas Sidiqui, who is also chief finance controller of the outfit, and his accomplice in a house at Daman, police and 8 RR troops were rushed to the area at about 4.00 am. He said when the police and army personnel were laying a cordon around the house, the militants fired and made an attempt to flee. The fire was returned. The DIG said in the ensuing exchange of fire lasting over an hour, Natnoo was killed while the other militant managed to escape. One pistol and some rounds were recovered from the area.
