Residents of Lady Jamshedji Road, Mahim, took to the streets on Wednesday to protest police inaction in the face of the alarming rise in cases of theft in the area.
Residents say drug addicts who sleep on the pavements around the Mahim dargah are responsible for most of these thefts. They are known to have stolen petrol, automobile parts and even cars.
Yakub Hanlani, a resident, says when he told the police of the theft of petrol from his Maruti 800 car, they just took notes in an unofficial diary and assured Hanlani that the beat marshal would check the area at night.
We have recovered all the stolen cars and have also been patrolling the area extensively, said Police Sub-Inspector A B Londhe of the Mahim police station. |
