Western Railway defeated Indian Oil by eight wickets yesterday to seal a semi-final berth in the KC Mahindra Memorial Shield Invitation cricket tournament.
The Oilmen folded up for a meagre 137 in only 31.5 overs in the quarter-final encounter in the face of some hostile bowling from R Thakur and B Upadhayay. The duo bowled in tandem to rock the opponents and claimed three wickets apiece for their effort, giving away 24 and 43 runs respectively.
Indian Oils bowling lacked the firepower to contain the Railways batsmen as they could account for only two wickets. Dhiren Salvi (78) and Prasad Patil (43 not out) led the charge from the front to overhaul the target in just 24.1 overs. Results Quarter-finals: Air India (224-8) bt Mumbai Police (174 all out), DY Patil (185 all out) bt Tata Sports Club (130 all out), Mumbai Customs (210-3) bt Bharat Petroleum (207 all out). |
