Social worker Praveen Mahales relative Hemant Vaidya was issued a death certificate (below) by Sion Hospital which said the cause of death was Shock following multiple injuries (unnatural) Though the state government has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to relatives of blast victims, some of them may not get their hands on the money.
The reason many of the death certificates say the cause of death is unnatural and not bomb blast.
The BMC-run hospitals, where victims of the blast were admitted, have issued death certificates, mentioning the cause of death as unnatural. May be a hurdle
Government officials say this may be a hurdle in getting aid from the government.
Compensation cannot be paid in case of an unnatural death. The death certificate should clearly mention that the death is a result of bomb blast, said a government official, who did not wish to be named.
Praveen Mahale, a resident of Dadar, whose relative Hemant Vaidya was killed in the blast, got a death certificate from Sion Hospital, which says the cause of death is unnatural.
Mahale said, I cant understand why they say it is unnatural when it was a bomb blast. The hospital administration should be careful of these things while preparing the death certificates, especially in these cases.
However, a medical officer of Sion Hospital claimed that the death certificates were being prepared carefully and nobody would be adversely affected with regards to compensation.
