Team bus driver wearing the Indian Test jerseyNOTTINGHAM: Few months ago, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar had raised objection on support staff wearing official Team India gear. It had created quite a controversy then.
However, it seems that the official team gear is again being misused. On Friday evening, when the Indian team was leaving Trent Bridge, the team bus driver was seen wearing Indias Test whites.
When asked who gave him this jersey, he said he received it from the team. I have got a one-day jersey too, which also has been given by the team.
The question is why? The team India shirt has to be earned and should not be given to all and sundry. It is not to be distributed among non-cricketers. It is fine if players feel gratitude towards helpers on tour and give them sponsors t-shirts or training gear.
All this started with Ian Fraser, former assistant coach/biomechanist of the Indian team wearing the official India cap. The BCCI had then sent across a directive to Fraser to refrain from using the official cap.
What will be interesting to see is how the Indian cricket board will react to this delicate issue.
