It was a providential escape for 27 passengers of a tourist bus, when the driver lost control and the bus nearly turned turtle at the flyover at the Ferozeshah Mehta junction between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg.
At 10.30 pm yesterday, the bus was on its way to Kandivli from Mahableshwar. According to the driver, Kalidas, the bus skid over the wet road when he applied the brakes as he could not see the construction work being carried on the road.
A little later, even as traffic police were trying to move the bus from the spot with the help of a crane, a rickshaw turned turtle after it was hit by an Indica, at exactly the same spot. The Indica driver claimed that he could not see that the bus had broken down and by the time he did, he slammed on the brakes and hit the rickshaw.
Rickshaw passenger Sunny Britto suffered a minor sprain, but none of the other passengers in the bus or the Indica were hurt.
If that wasnt enough, another motorcyclist skid on the flyover and fell off his bike but he too escaped unhurt.
Policemen on the spot and passersby said there were no barriers or indicators of the work being carried out, which had also resulted in several mishaps at the spot.
