 REMAINS OF THE DAY: Cops take out a jawans body killed in the Dena Bank shootout in Daryaganj area of Delhi on Sunday PIC/RAJEEV TYAGINEW DELHI: The five constables of Indian Reserve Battalions (IRB) Sikkim Guard, who were killed by one of their colleagues at a central Delhi bank on Sunday, allegedly spent their duty hours eating, drinking and sodomising, according to sources.
Nari Lepcha, the killer, sprayed bullets on the five after they tried to sexually assault him. Lepcha was also attacked by another colleague Laxman Subba and was grievously injured in the massacre. He managed to kill Laxman.
The other dead jawans have been identified as Lance Naik Kumar Basnett, Vishal Tiwari, Karma Bhutia and Santabir Tamang.
No secret
The partying by the cops, entrusted with the sensitive job of guarding Dena Banks treasury, was no secret, sources told MiD DAY.
So much so, that even police control room staff patrolling the area would stop by if their cigarettes and drinks supply fell short.
Recovery of unbranded whisky from the spot also put a lid on the theory that the brutal murders took place due to personal enmity.
A security guard in a nearby private bank, said, They used to party inside most of the time.
As per the postings, five constables were required to guard the bank treasury chest. So they got the opportunity to get together and then drink and have good food.
First party?
We are still in the initial stages of investigations and more will come out after interrogation.
This could have been one of their first parties and what used to transpire will be revealed later by further interrogation, said DCP Alok Kumar.
Earlier, the police had arrested another guard J B Subba, who Lepcha mentioned as the killer.
But Kumar said, Lepcha told the police he locked himself in the bathroom which saved him but there was lot of contradiction in his statement.
Subba is not involved in the crime. Since he was also posted at the spot few months back, Lepcha took his name. THE INCIDENT Nari Lepcha picked up his SLR and killed three of his colleagues. Then, another guard Laxman Subba attacked him with an axe, injuring him seriously.
Lepcha managed to kill Laxman and another colleague then. He was admitted to Lok Narayan Jai Prakash hospital but discharged for probe.
After killing the five, Lepcha hacked the bodies mercilessly. The police came to know about the killing after he called them
