Constable Rajendra Pathare (left) claimed he had stopped Salman from escaping after the accidentThe hit-and-run case involving a police constable and actor Salman Khan at Worli junction has placed the Mumbai police in a quandary.

On Sunday, constable Rajendra Pathare claimed he had stopped Salman from escaping after the accident.

However, last night senior police officers turned turtle on their earlier statement claiming the Bollywood actor was not travelling in the car.

Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) K L Prasad said the actor was not travelling in the car, but added that he would conduct a fresh inquiry into the incident. He said he would question the constable again about the events after the accident.

However, footage available with MiD DAY clearly shows how constable Pathare and another unidentified cop were blocking Salman from leaving the scene of crime (see pic).

The Worli police now claim that Salman was not travelling in the car. In fact, the actor was in another car and stopped by to help as a good Samaritan.

An inquiry revealed that the policemen on duty at the police station at 3 am on Sunday were fascinated by the presence of actors Jackie Shroff and Salman at the police station.

Police records indicate Broke Clark was travelling in a Swift (MH01 VA 2039). Constable Santosh Dalvi was riding pillion on a motorbike (MH01EA 1631) from Mahalaxmi towards the police quarters when the accident took place at Worli junction. Dalvi, who is attached to the local arms (LA) division is a resident of Worli police camp.
