 | | see that: A student showing a car bearing a sticker of the Prime Minister’s National Advisory Council | Is Swami Dr Parthasarathy, chairman, Sri Sringeri Sharada Institute of Management, a member of the Prime Minister’s National Advisory Council? The NAC website doesn’t say so and neither the officials in the PMO, but Parthasarathy’s car announces that he is a member of the NAC with a valid sticker that expires on December 31, 2007. “How come he has a sticker if he is not a member of the PM’s NAC,” question students. Two cars a Ford Fiesta and a Toyota Corolla were parked inside the premises of the Shankara Vidya Kendra, in Vasant Vihar where Dr Parthasarathy stays with stickers announcing that the car belonged to the member of the Prime Minister’s National Advisory Council. However, none of the members of the institute confirmed that the chairman was a member of the NAC.
Spokesperson of the institute Rajiv Tiwari said that it was a personal matter of the chairperson and he was not aware of the details. “I am the spokesperson of the institute, not the chairperson,” he said.
‘I love you’
Dr Parthasarathy, chairman, Sri Sringeri Sharada Institute of Management had allegedly professed his love for a girl student and offered her a trip to South India with a stay in a five-star hotel.
“I was in the class when Dr Parthasarathy called me to his room. I entered the room and he started behaving abnormally. All of a sudden he said, ‘I love you so much.’ I was shocked and did not reply. He is a swami, a monk and I did not expect this from him. And then all of a sudden he said, “Will you go to South India if I send you. You will get a chance to stay in a five star hotel. Don’t tell anyone about it.” I was shocked and I left his room. I thought I would be rusticated if I opened my mouth so I did not speak about his to anyone,” says Reema Sharma (name changed).
Strong stand
The students have complaint to the police against Dr Parthasarathy and have refused to attend classes till action is taken against the chairperson. The students have also threatened to commit suicide if action is not taken against the accused. As the student’s stir in the Vasant Kunj institute intensified, the authorities formed a committee, which would investigate the matter of sexual harassment by the chairman. On Thursday, the management students again protested in Vasant Vihar against the chairman .
Biased attitude
According to the students, the chairman had also held a feed back session, when only female students were invited to take part.
“The boys were not even a part of the discussion. We were surprised at the chairman’s biased attitude. Also once during the oral exams he asked us absurd questions. When it was my turn he asked me if I was interested to go to South India. When I said no, he sent me out. During one of my friend’s oral he asked why her skin glowed so much and what was the secret behind it,” a student said.
The students have also alleged that the management had organised an industrial tour for the first year students from November 25 failing which they would have to pay heavy fines. “The industrial tour has been organised in a hurry to break the unity of the students. We have been warned that if we fail to attend the tour we will be fined heavily,” a first year student said.
Probe order
Dr Parthasarathy was not available for comment. Institute spokesperson Rajeev Tiwari said, “We met the DCP of the area and have given her our reply. An institute committee has been formed to look into the allegations of the students. We are concerned about the students and we want the students to get back to the classes soon.” |
