Onir?s film gets UN stamp

By:

Onir, who directed My Brother Nikhil and Bas Ek Pal, is all set to start his third film in December. Tentatively entitled Labyrinth, the project will go into the sensitive and burning topic of human trafficking.

Onir is deeply immersed in the process of researching this deep-rooted malaise.

“I find it very tough to maintain a balance and not get carried away. I want to keep the subject sensitive and not bring in a sensational element. I want to give the topic a global spin. For that, the United Nations will provide authenticated statistics and facts. I also want to bring in a German scriptwriter to fine-tune my script after I’m done with it.”

Since this film will take Onir to various parts of the world, it’d be his most expensive film to date. “There’ll be multiple stories and an ensemble cast. I’m handling the theme carefully. I want it to finally be a gripping and emotional story. I’ll shoot in India, Nepal and the Middle East. So Labyrinth won’t be an inexpensive film.” In another two months, casting begins.

“Going by the nature of the subject, I need fresh faces. Of course, there’ll be some known actors too.” The film will be primarily in Hindi. “But it will have smatterings of English, Nepali and Arabic. And yes, it will have songs in the background. I love songs.”

Straight up

WHAT do we make of Sonam Kapoor’s hair-do at a recent shampoo promotion event?  Especially after all those stories emerging about how she made a TV crew reshoot an entire interview because a strand was out of place.

Sonam was immaculately turned out at the event, down to her fingernails and was chirpy to boot. Yet the Saawariya heroine had onlookers flummoxed when she appeared in this half poker straight-half curly style that’s neither here nor there.

Newcomer, new style statement? You tell us...
