The Sion police have registered a case of cheating and forgery against Chetan Shah, vice president of a reputed construction firm, for allegedly forging ownership docum- ents of a property in Sion worth almost Rs 1 crore.
The Metropolitan Magistrates Court, Kurla, has instructed the police to probe and file a charge sheet in the case.
Investigating police officer API Bhanudas Dalvi said the complainant Bakul Parekh has complained that Shah has forged the signatures of Malkanis from whom he had bought a 1,000 sq ft property in Sion Sindhi society in August 1989 for a consideration of Rs 6 lakh. All the documents and receipts pertaining to the deal were with Parekh.
Now Parekh already had a property in the society and so this property could not be transferred in his name, as the society did not allow members to have more than one property registered in their name. Parekh claimed he did not use the property from 1993, said the police.
Then in December 2006, Parekh said he was told that Shah had approached the society office seeking membership to the society, though he did not own any property. Parekh discovered that Shah had forged Malkanis signature, and also the property papers.
Said Chetan Shah, “The police have not approached me seeking any clarification. I am the rightful owner of the property for years and have all documents to prove my ownership,” he said. |
