Two held for alleged blast links

Siliguri: 

Two persons, one of them a Bangladeshi and believed to be linked with a Gujarat blasts suspect, were arrested today by a team of Delhi Police in Bhaktinagar area.

Five crude bombs and one country-made firearm and rounds of ammunition were recovered from the duo who were picked up from Santipara under Bhoktinagar police station area in Jalpaiguri district, Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) K L Tamta said.

The arrests were made after Delhi Police interrogated Muhammad Hakim on July 25 in connection with the recent serial blasts in Gujarat. He had divulged information on some associates in Santipara.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (crime) Sitaram Sinha said one of the arrested persons was Bangladeshi Yessin Muhammad (25) and the other Muhammed Maniuddin (42).

Police last night detained five persons from the area but three were later released.

Serial blasts rocked Ahmedabad on July 26, killing 49 people and injuring many.
