Tributes to Kaka

Mumbai:

Kapil Dev: It is a sad day in Indian cricket. It is always sad when a fellow cricketer passes away. He was a very jovial and good human being. He taught me a lot in my playing days.

Ajit Wadekar: He would always be upbeat even if he was out of form. He played a pivotal role in India's historic win in the West Indies in 1971 by developing good opening partnerships with Sunil Gavaskar.

Chandrakant Pandit: He taught me how to build my confidence. He offered me the Mafatlal captaincy in an important tournament like Buchi Babu. I shall never forget that.

Prof Ratnakar Shetty (BCCI CAO): It was shocking when I got this news. It is really unfortunate. He was a good strategist and a technical man. It is a big loss especially for Mumbai cricket.

Ravi Shastri: Ashok Mankad was a great guy and an excellent student of the game.

Farokh Engineer (From UK): Ashok's death is a big blow. I knew him since he was a kid because his dad Vinoo, who I played club cricket with, used to get Ashok and Atul with him
for matches.

Amol Muzumdar (From UK): Mumbai cricket has lost a true legend. My deepest condolences to the Mankad family.

Readers are welcome to e-mail their tributes and condolence messages to
tributes@mid-day.com They will be passed on to the Mankad family
