Second innings hero Gautam Gambhir said a target of 350 plus will be sufficient to win the second Test and square the series. Gambhir's attacking 74 gave India a fighting chance of squaring the series."Anything above 350 will be difficult to get. It is not an easy wicket to bat on a pitch that is deteriorating. Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble will not be easy to play. It will be difficult for the Lanka batsmen," said Gambhir after the third day's play.
Gambhir has been very consistent in the series. His handling of the Sri Lankan spinners has been really impressive, especially Ajantha Mendis.
"They have a quality attack, especially in the own back yard. It is difficult to work out a plan against them. You have just got to react to the ball and cannot pre-determine. Mendis and Murali are quality bowlers with so much variety. It is a great challenge," he said.
Mystery no more
The left-hand opener said the secret is to read Mendis from the fingers. "Most of his variations come from his fingers. I have handled him well and hope it continues till the end of the series."
He also reckoned the experience of playing spinners at the domestic level helped him.
Gambhir expressed disappointment at missing out on a century, which he felt was there for the taking when he received a Mendis special. "The ball was drifting a bit, and the one that got me drifted much more. I am disappointed. But, I am happy to have set it up for the bowlers."
