Cylinder blasts expert?
By: Imran Gowhar

Bangalore:

The Belgaum police on Saturday nabbed 31-year-old Tanveer Abdul Sattar Mulla and recovered some incriminating evidence from him.

Mulla was earlier detained by the CoD police in connection with the Hubli serial blasts and was released after questioning.

The police have also recovered CDs containing objectionable material including notes of preparing cylinder bombs from Mulla.

Plugging holes

"After the serial blasts we wanted to question Mulla again to ascertain his possible connection to the blast," said a police officer, adding that they have also questioned Sameer Sadiq, a Gur"appanapalya resident and secretary of SIMI.

"Moreover, we want to round up these people as we cannot take chances," said the officer, adding that

Clinching evidence

The CDs have tips on designing cylinder bombs. The other two CDs contain training given to the terror suspects and the third CD, which includes atrocities committed against Muslims across the country.

The police have also recovered computer and hard disc from Mulla's house. They have around 5,400 folders containing anti-India propaganda and details of Jihadi activities.

"We suspect that SIMI activists might have contacted Mulla since he is said to be an expert in making cylinder bombs.

"We are also probing whether Mulla had conducted an experiment with cylinder bombs before the serial blasts in Bangalore," said the officer.

According to Belgaum superintendent of police Sonia Narang, Mulla had earlier planned to carry out blasts with his associate Liyakhat Sayed on May 1 this year. But the plan was abandoned following the arrest of Sayed.

Surat connection

During the interrogation, Mohammed Naseer and Asadulla revealed plans to attack vital installations with vehicles laden with explosives. The same pattern was found in Surat where police recovered an abandoned car laden with explosives, according to sources. "This led us to suspect the involvement of the same group in the Ahmedabad and Bangalore blasts," said an official.

Provocation

Following the Hubli terror plot, the police had arrested more than 20 Simi activists from various parts of the state. This angered Simi whose activists could have executed the blasts to avenge police action, claimed officials.

Making of a terrorist
Tanveer Mulla is the son of photographer Abdul Sattar and his mother is an anganawadi teacher.

A college dropout, Tanveer worked as waiter in a hotel in Kuwait for few years before returning to Belgaum.

After that he came in contact with SIMI activists such as Dr Munroz, Liyaqat Ali Sayyad, Imtiyaz Dalayat and Nasir Patel.

The police have arrested Liaqat few months ago in connection with the Hubli terror plot. But Tanveer, who was also detained at that time, was let off because of  want of proof.
