Mumbai: A married couple set themselves on fire in a northwest suburb in Mumbai, according to the police.
Rahul Tomar and Kiran Rathod, both aged 25-years-old, had been married for over a year.
Rathod, who works as a teacher in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra had come to Mumbai last morning.
The two met at night and went to a parking lot in suburban Malad.
After some discussions, they drew petrol from Tomar's motorcycle and poured it on themselves, say police sources.
They then set themselves ablaze and sustained 50 to 60 per cent burns on their bodies. The police informed that both were then admitted to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali.
Sources say that family opposition to their marriage is suspected to be the reason behind the couple taking the extreme step.
