Mumbai: After booking three women for drunk driving, the Mumbai Traffic Police were shocked to realise that all but one woman had disclosed false details. They found that the contact numbers and addresses provided by these women were false.
Three women were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday night. Anuradha Sharma (40) from Peddar Road, was summoned to the Esplanade metropolitan magistrate's court on Monday. "When she failed to turn up, our men visited the address she mentioned, but the society manager told them that no person by such a name resides there. She is not answering our calls either," said an official from the traffic police. When MiD DAY contacted Sharma, she said, "I am not interested in talking about the incident." The official said the other woman, Sapna Bijlani, had even provided them with a fake mobile number. "When we called the number, we were told there was nobody called Sapna."
When asked how the traffic police aim to tackle the issue of people giving false information, Sanjay Barve, Jt CP (Traffic), said, "We have details of their vehicle number and licenses to track them. We can register 'cases of misleading' against them." Their next hearing is on August 18.
The woman who paid
Bhakti Mohit Chugani (42), who was driving a Mercedes when she was caught, was the only person to give correct information. She was arrested and imprisoned for a day at the Azad Maidan police station. Her license has been suspended for six months.
