India's ruling coalition UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi accompanied by her daughter Priyanka and son Rahul today arrived to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Sonia Gandhi will also visit the Indian contingent at the Games Village and boost the athletes morale besides attending the opening ceremony tomorrow night.

"Sonia Gandhi, her daughter Priyanka Vadra and son Rahul Gandhi, were accorded a warm welcome at the Beijing International Airport soon after their arrival," the Indian Olympic Association said in a statement.

The Gandhi family was received by IOA President Suresh Kalmadi, India's ambassador to China Nirupma Rao and Chinese Minister for Protocol at the airport.

Fifty-six Indian athletes will compete in various disciplines of the August 8-24 quadrennial event.
