Hailing the success of Olympic shooter Abhinav Bindra, Railways Minister Lalu Prasad hinted today that the railways might rope in the ace shooter to become the brand ambassador.
Lalu responded to a question regarding whether the railways planned to project Bindra as its brand ambassador with a quick, "Yes, he may be."
When asked why Bindra was not given a cash prize by the Railways, Prasad commented, " Money is not everything. He has done the country proud and he is being honoured from all quarters."
He said he was considering offering better job opportunities to sportspersons.
"We are thinking of bringing a proposal to give them jobs in higher grade services. So far the sportsperson are given jobs in Group C and Group D categories," he added.
Prasad announced yesterday that he was arranging a free lifetime train travel pass for Bindra, which would be valid for first class AC travel by all the trains including Shatabadi and Rajdhani trains.
Lauding Bindra's achievement that makes him the first ever individual Olympic gold medallist for India, Prasad said that his remarkable achievement should inspire other Indian athletes to perform as well in the remaining part of the Beijing Olympics.
