Haste is waste: Potholes have developed on the airport junction flyover within a month of inauguration. Pic/SURESH K K |
The reason for this mess is the shoddy work carried out by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) so that it could meet the deadline of completion by July 15.
"To meet the deadline, we had to lay down the final layer on the western side of the flyover when it was still raining. This has resulted in potholes," said a senior MSRDC official. And the heavy downpour in the last two days has not helped matters.
MSRDC has completed work on three lanes, and stalled work on the other three till January. "I have seen the potholes and instructed to repair them as soon as there is a dry spell," said Satish Gavai, managing director, MSRDC.
The stretch of road below the flyover on the Western Express Highway too has had a bad history of potholes and the subsequent traffic problems.
