Mumbaikars rejoiced in a squelchy, local train compartment
Laughing as yet another commuter stepped on their shoes
Abhinav Bindra's shot that struck gold
Was proof that the new India arriveth
Out goes the old
So, they smiled as the rickshaws on potholes
Got their bones a-rattling
This is nothing they thought compared to what Bindra was battling
No grouchy boss or even the cabbie pocketing the change
Could take away from the Mumbaikar's happiness
After years of excuses and other whining
A Chandigarh munda
Has given rebirth to the phrase India Shining
Now is the time to stop our obsession with cricket
Our athletes must believe
They can score on another wicket
The shot from this rifle that hit the bullseye
Is no shot in the dark
But a time to say goodbye
To Indian officials outnumbering athletes in foreign lands
Or athletes that become paupers
And need charity and helping hands.
The Bindra story can be only the foot on the pedal
Of a movement that brings home
Several Olympic medals
Give our athletes dignity and money they do not need 'daan'
