Nine persons, mostly SIMI activists, have been arrested in connection with the July 26 serial bomb blasts here that killed 55 persons, a senior police official said today.
The alleged mastermind of the Ahmedabad blasts, Mufti Abu Bashir, was arrested from Lucknow, the Gujarat police said.
"We have arrested more than eight people in connection with the serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad," Joint Commissioner of Police Ashish Bhatia said.
Police, however, said the details of the arrests, made by the city Crime Branch, will be made available shortly.
The Crime Branch had earlier apprehended Abdul Halim soon after the explosions and he is in judicial custody.
Police have questioned a number of people all over Gujarat which included eyewitnesses and suspects.
