TERROR: Abul Bashar was arrested for being involved in the Ahmedabad blasts | Azamgarh is known for being the hometown of don Abu Salem. But even the most recent terror suspect, Abul Bashar, who was arrested for being involved in the Ahmedabad blasts, is also from this district in Uttar Pradesh. Bashar was picked up from Binabara village. Earlier too, two suspects were picked up from here for their roles in the 2007 Hyderabad and 2006 Malegaon blasts from this village. Mohammad Shahid, the village sarpanch, said, "One Khalid Mujaheed was picked up by the UP police in September 2007 and earlier Hakim Tariq was arrested in late 2006 on terror charges. They were arrested in Hyderabad and Malegaon blast cases." Meanwhile, the Gujarat police have claimed that Bashar has confessed to knowing about the blasts in advance and will cooperate with the police investigations.
