Joyride lands 2 in jail for theft
By: Rita Ghose

Mumbai: When Amit Gawde (25), Sampat Bhosale (24) and Ketan Patil (17) decided to take a joyride on a bike, which started when one of them accidentally kicked the starter, they could not have anticipated the trouble they would fall into.

As the three were riding around their building in Jogeshwari, they were stopped by a cop and taken to the Meghwadi police station as part of the routine procedure. And that's when the case took a serious turn. The police discovered that the bike was a stolen one.

Santosh Shirodkar, who lives in the same building as the trio, said, "The bike had been parked in front of our building for more than 15 days. No one knew it was stolen. They just wanted to take a small round around the building." Added Shekar, Sampat's brother, "The bike's wires had probably been tampered with to make it easy to start. The boys did not steal the bike."

While Ketan was released the same evening, Amit and Sampat were produced before the Andheri court yesterday. The court directed the Versova police, who have the case of the stolen bike, to intervene. They will be produced before the Bandra court today. The Meghwadi police confirmed the case.
