Around a dozen malaria patients at the Siddharth Municipal Hospital, Goregaon, complained of severe body pain, uneasiness and vomiting earlier this morning after they were given a new injection.

The relatives and family members alleged that the injection developed allergies in the patients and the vomiting was a side effect of the medication.

According to the relatives, the doctors injected the patients with a new injection last evening. "After the injections were given the patients started vomiting and the condition of few patients was so critical that they had to be given oxygen for breathing," said a relative.

Yasmin Gadkari (15), a patient at the hospital was also given the same injection. She complained of pain in her body and vomiting. "I was admitted yesterday morning and my condition was stable, but after the doctor gave me the injection my condition worsened. My parents are planning to shift me to a private hospital," said Gadkari.

Dr Leena Jamsandkar, Medical officer at Siddharth Hospital, confirmed the incident. She said, "The injection in question is Broadcef. This is a new injection and I have already spoken to my seniors who will soon be investigating the matter."

She also claimed that the condition of the patients was stable.
