Delhi: Municipal commissioner KS Mehra's promise to repair  badly damaged roads within 24 hours on a complaint filed by any citizen has not come through as potholes are still troubling  commuters.

Following an outcry against   potholes and water-logging which made the city roads a nightmare for comuters, the commissioner in a standing committee meeting on July 17 announced that bad roads would be repaired within a day.

But when MiD DAY checked out the MCD's claim, it found that the condition of the roads which had been reported to the civic body was still bad.

On August 18, MiD DAY selected a few vulnerable points in the city where the condition of the roads was pathetic and lodged complaints at various zonal offices of the civic body. Of the 14 roads about which a complaint was lodged, work was started only at four locations after 24 hours.

Reacting to the situation, MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur, said, "Rainfall has badly damaged the roads. We are trying our best to repair them. The work is being carried out day and night. We will fix all the potholes as soon aspossible."
