World and Olympic 100m champion Usain Bolt will have a rather hefty bill to settle once he's finished keeping his promise to the Trinidad and Tobago 4x100m Men's relay team after the Jamaicans beat their nearest rivals by a world record time here at the Bird's Nest Stadium last night.

Tried to unsettle

Richard Thomson, the 100m silver medallist, who also took second place in the relay yesterday, spoke to MiD DAY about how both teams indulged in a bit of gamesmanship before the eagerly-anticipated team event as the Trinidadians tried to unsettle the Jamaicans, all in good humour.

"We just wanted to try and shake them off a bit so we told Asafa (Powell) and Usain that we're gonna beat you guys tonight, even though at the back of our minds we knew it would be tough because the guys are world champions," Thompson said after the Jamaicans won the 4x100 relay race in world record time of 37.10 seconds beating the previous world mark of 37.40 set by the Americans.

Bolt, obviously was sharp in his response to the Trinidadians. "Usain knew we were fooling around. He told us that he'll take us out for drinks if we beat them," added Thompson, as he went on to describe the camaraderie that has been in existence for quite sometime now between the Caribbean sides.

"We train and even hang out together sometimes. We even make travel plans together," said Thompson. Bolt barged in: "Don't worry maan, the drinks are on me anyway," Bolt said as both set of athletes broke into a chuckle.
