Mumbai: The new season of reality show Bigg Boss has caught the fancy of couple of politicians, one of them being Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Ramdas Athavale. Despite being dropped by the channel at the last minute, dalit leaders have shown dissatisfaction in his interest in the show and creating unnecessary controversy over him being left out.
"Dropping Athavale from the show is not an issue. This was an issue between the channel and Athavale.
Besides, how can people, who are involved in politics and social work, participate in such a show? People taking part in the show don't have any contact with the outside world for over 50 days. How can a politician afford to stay out of touch with for so long?" asks Jogendra Kawade, a Republican Party leader. He adds that the show is not meant for the masses. "It caters to a certain class. Where does a politician fit into it?" he says.
But Arjun Dangle of Republican Party of India (Athavale faction), doesn't agree with Kawade. "We think it he was left out because of his caste. Besides, politicians like him can discuss about social issues, Constitution and about Babasaheb Ambedkar. He would have enlightened them on various issues."
Nandini Sardesai, says, "Athavale is setting a bad example by being part of a show which has Monica Bedi and Rahul Mahajan in it. The show will not have any credibility by glorifying these kind of people."
