Metal detectors in schools soon

mumbai:

All 150 schools under the Archdiocesan Board of Education may soon have metal detectors and other security equipment in their premises soon.

After a letter threatening to blow up the religious places and missionary schools in the city was sent to the police, representatives of all such schools have decided to meet today and discuss possible precautionary measures.

"We will also meet the police commissioner on how we can avoid getting panicky about the terror threats," said Father  Gregory Lobo, secretary, Archdiocesan Board of Education.

Schools believe such letters should not be given much importance. And that it's up to the parents to decide if it's safe to send their children to school.

"We cannot declare a holiday unless we get the notification from the education or police department. The rest is up to the parents," said an official from Holy Family School, Andheri.
Agreeing with him is his Dinesh Tarfe, whose child goes to St Xavier's School, Andheri. "I will send my child to school. But I expect that my child will be safe in the school, for which precautionary measures have to be taken. Schools should also have workshops for kids along with the school bus drivers on how to be alert," he said.
