BEST has proposed this additional charge to recover the fuel adjustment charge (FAC) for the period between October 2007 and March 2008. The FAC is the permissible recovery of the cost incurred on fuel used to generate power. The total under-recovered amount during this period is Rs 74.8 crore.
This amount can be recovered if the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) approves the cost. MERC will hold a public hearing on this proposal on September 2, where people can oppose this hike.
S Puranik, additional general manager, BEST, said, "We have been paying higher FAC to Tata Power, who supply us with power, and it has not been claimed from the consumers yet." BEST has also asked for the FAC charged to consumers to be increased from the present 10 per cent to 20 per cent.
This is how your bill will look, if FAC is approved
