Mumbai: In a midnight raid at a bungalow in Khandala on Tuesday, police arrested 40 people, including 22 high-ranking custom officials, 11 bar girls and three event managers indulging in obscene activities.
The officers, including 12 high-ranking bureaucrats and nine inspectors from the customs department of Mumbai airport, were caught watching blue films in a compromising position with the bar girls. Police also confiscated
Rs 1.26 lakh cash, CDs of pornographic films, a laptop and imported liquor bottles.
The accused have been booked under charges of the Prohibition Act for watching blue films and organising a dance show by bar girls. Zakir Hussain Sayyed Yasin and his wife, the caretakers of the bungalow, and a DJ were also arrested. "All the 40 people were released on bail," said Lalit Kaushal, the lawyer representing the accused.
Dr Madhav Waghmare said blood samples of those arrested have been sent for narcotic tests and the report will come in two days.
