Ashok Lohar

MULTI-sport official Ashok Lohar passed away after suffering a massive stroke at the Mahindra Stadium yesterday.

Lohar was at the Bombay Hockey Association in the afternoon watching the inter-academy semi-finals where he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the Bombay Hospital, where he passed away.

Lohar, who served the Mumbai Schools Sports Association for over 40 years, had recently contested and lost the elections for the post of MSSA president. He earlier served the body as secretary and vice-president.

Lohar was also president of the Amateur Handball Association of Mumbai, secretary of the Mumbai Volleyball Association and secretary of the Mumbai District Football Association.

He was also a member of the Mumbai Hockey Association and past secretary of the Maharashtra Olympic Association.

An NIS-qualified coach in athletics, Lohar was a volleyball coach for JB Vacha, Savla Vidyalaya and Bansidhar Agarwal schools.
