No trace of 26,000 people in Delhi

Over 26,000 people who went missing from the national capital are yet to be traced while over 1.26 lakh vehicles and 30,000 mobile phones stolen from the city are still in the hands of thieves.


Of a total 26,052 people missing from the city, the largest chunk is from northeast Delhi that accounts for 4,777 people, followed by such cases in South Delhi with 4,457 people gone missing.


According to the statistics given by the Delhi Police, there are 3,314 missing persons from south-west Delhi who are yet to be traced while the figures for West Delhi is 3,302 and Outer Delhi accounts to 2,916.


East Delhi accounts for 2,763 missing people followed by the New Delhi district (2,237), North West (2,237), Central (890) and North (888).


South Delhi seems to be the favourite destination for vehicle thieves with this district topping the list of stolen vehicles with 29,307 out of a total of 1,26,338.


The figures for other police districts in the capital: North-West (19,896), West (19,866), East (13,563), South West (12,401), North-East (8,949), Central (7,566), North (5,721), New Delhi (5,507) and Outer (2,225).


Police have also seized a total of 24,924 unclaimed vehicles from the city with West Delhi topping the chart with 5,633 followed by North-East Delhi (4,034) and North Delhi (2,537) and South (2512).


Statistics show that 30,401 cases of missing mobiles were registered with the Delhi Police since May 2007 with North Delhi at the top with 5,687 and followed by North-West Delhi (3,752), West Delhi (3,624) and North-East (3,262).


East Delhi accounted for 3,100 such cases while Central Delhi had 3,097 such incidents.
