Suspect Dawood's role in giving logistic support to fidayeen attack
The Crime Branch is leaving no stone unturned in the investigation of last week's terror attack. According to sources, senior crime branch officials yesterday visited several jails in the city and questioned members of the Chhota Rajan gang for information about the attack.
According to an unwritten rule in the underworld, gangs keep tabs on the activities of rival gangs. Crime Branch sleuths are exploring this network to gain information on Dawood Ibrahim's alleged role in the 26/11 fidayeen attack. Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Rakesh Maria was not available for comment despite repeated efforts.
Though the crime branch has virtually no clinching evidence to link Dawood's role in the 26/11 attacks, they have reasons to believe that some local gang could have providedlogistic support to the fidayeen.
D-gang's terror link
In the 1993 serial blast case, several members of the D-gang were convicted, and Dawood's direct involvement in the blast was confirmed. On the other hand, Rajan's men had been keeping tabs on Dawood's men and gunned down at least 7 men involved in the 1993 blasts.
Ravi Mallesh Bora alias D K Rao is believed to be at the centre of investigations. Others like Vicky Malhotra and Farid Tanasha, are likely to be probed.
