bloodbath: CST was one of the targets where terrorists shot people on November 26

During the recent terror attacks, the state director general of police's office reportedly wrote a letter to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) absolving itself of all law and order problems that occur on railway premises.

An RPF official said, "The letter from the DG's office stated that the Maharashtra police is not responsible for any attacks at railway stations. It falls under the jurisdiction of the RPF. How can a DG even think of sending such a letter when we needed their support?"

The official added, "After the train blasts in Mumbai on July 11, 2006, Maharashtra's GRP sent a similar letter to senior RPF officials, which pointed out that the RPF was solely responsible for the security at railway stations."

However, it is an IPC rule that the RPF looks after security issues and property thefts that occur at railway premises. Rashmi Shukla, deputy general of police (law and order), said, "The letter dated November 29 is addressed to the director general, RPF.

It mentions that the RPF should set up security arrangements at railway stations. We have not said that the security at railway stations is not our responsibility at all. We have only talked about our role which is mentioned in the rules," said Shukla.
