ARYA Vidya Mandir (Bandra) crashed out of the inter-school MSSA football (boys under -14 Div IV) in extraordinary circumstances when they encountered Lilavati Poddar (Santacruz) in the pre quarters yesterday.
It was custodian Kshitj Tarkas' worst day ever on the field. During the course of their match, an inter-school handball match was in progress right behind the goal area. While Kshitj stood firmly under the bar, he heard multiple whistles that came from the handball game forcing him to turn behind. This gave Fraser D'Sa a straightforward tap in the goal to double their lead after Tanay Garg struck the opener. AVM were certainly the better side, but could only manage a goal through Dhruv Vora in their 2-1 loss.
Dejected Kshitj Tarkas said, "I heard three whistles simultaneously which totally disturbed my concentration. At that time, two of my defenders froze as well. It's sad to exit the tournament in such a manner."
Coach George Lawrence said: "I just feel that luck didn't favour us. I would certainly advice MSSA to take care of such situations. Sadly, this loss was also the end of our tournament."
