terrorised terrorists: Two terrorists, unnerved at this sight of NSG commandos, wanted to surrender. But a pep talk from an ISI operative dissuaded them from doing so | Telephonic conversations intercepted by Mumbai's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) indicate that at least two of the ten 26/11 terrorists would have surrendered or succumbed to tiredness had it not been for a running telephonic pep talk by their trainer Kafa, a suspected Pakistan Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) operative.
The two terrorists at Nariman House, unnerved at the sight of National Security Group (NSG) commandos, asked Kafa if they should surrender. Kafa responded with a speech peppered with Quranic verses, urging them to keep firing at the commandos. There were times, when the LeT fighters told Kafa that they were tired and wanted to sleep. They were instructed to keep awake and keep firing at the commandos.
Senior ATS officials told MiD DAY that they managed to crack the code of the telephones used by the terrorists at the Taj and Nariman House to contact Kafa, in Azizabad in Sindh, Pakistan. The NSG commandos, after analysing the interceptions, kept firing intermittently at the fighters to keep them awake and tire them.
Conversations in Trident Hotel could not be recorded as Abdul Rehman and Fahadullah were using a different network, which could not be intercepted.
The sensitive recordings are now part of the vital evidence against Pakistan that underline how the ISI has been using proxies to fight battles in India. Incarcerated terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab told Mumbai police that nine others and he were trained by Zaki-ur-Rehman alias Chacha and his deputy Kafa, both suspected ISI operatives. |
