Five persons including three children of a family were killed in a late-night collision between two cars in the Kanhaiya Nagar area of northwest Delhi.

The incident occurred when Rakesh Garg (48), who had gone to attend a wedding in Rohini with his wife, two children and one niece, was driving back home in a Maruti 800 car (DL-2CG-3179). His car was hit by a speeding Scorpio (DL-8CJ-5582) at a traffic signal near Kanhaiya Nagar Metro Station at 1 am.

"Garg was on his way from Rohini while the Scorpio car was coming from Inderlok. While the Maruti was taking a U turn, the Scorpio hit it. The impact was such that the bodies of the victims were thrown out of the Maruti and on to the road," the police said.

Eyewitnesses said the Scorpio was speeding and couldn't stop at the signal. They added that there were around five people in the Scorpio but they were not injured. One of them may have sustained minor injuries.
After the collision, the people in the Scorpio fled from the spot, abandoning the vehicle.

The three children died on the spot while Garg and his wife died at the Trauma Centre at Kashmiri Gate. Garg was a resident of Devaram Park in the Tri Nagar area of west Delhi.
