Dense fog hit flights to and from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here Monday morning forcing at least 27 domestic and six international flights to take off and land much behind schedule.
Airport sources said with visibility reduced to a minimum due to dense fog Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Lufthansa, British Airways and other airlines changed their flight schedules by two hours on an average.
Flights belonging to different airlines bound for Delhi (5), Mumbai (5), Bangalore (3) and Chennai (2) were affected as the fog persists when reports last came in around 9.30 am, the sources said.
Among the international flights only two arrived three to four hours late.
Air India's Kolkata-Delhi flight took off two hours behind schedule at 8.40 am as also Jet Airways' Kolkata-Port Blair flight. The Kolkata-Silchar flight took off at 8.10 am instead of 6 am, while the Kolkata-Mumbai flight took off at 8.45 am instead of 6 am.
Air India's Kolkata-Port Blair flight was delayed by about three-and-half-hours, the sources said.
Local train services to the metropolis at both Howrah and Sealdah stations were also affected due to the fog but there were no cancellations, railways sources said.
