It is here that Khosla Ka Ghosla was shot, the film that became the iconic depiction of Delhi's ugly property disputes and real estate con jobs.
And it is here at 14, Jamuna Road, in north Delhi's Civil Lines that a real-life property drama is unfolding, vicious enough to have made Mr Khosla's (the film's protagonist played by Anupam Kher) non-existent hair stand on end.
Trespass, threats, breaking down a boundary wall, flashing axes and rodsâ¦allegations are flying over this plot. The matter is in court now.
"When the shooting proposal came, I was told it would be a documentary on retired people. They even took my photos. When they put Kher's picture on mine I realised it was something different," said Raj Bahadur, 80, sitting in a floral sofa. "But I never imagined in my wildest dreams that the story would be repeated this way."
He said property dealer Pradeep Garg had bought the neighbouring plot from one of his relatives. "My whole family used to live in adjacent bungalows and we had marked a narrow lane to connect our houses," he said.
He accused Garg of trespassing on his premises by breaking down the boundary wall and fixing a gate to the lane.
Garg was not at home, but DS Bali, who said he was authorised to speak for him, said: "We have not tried to break into anyone's house. The gate was always there. It opens to the street, which is not a part of their house. The case is sub judice."
However, Raj Bahadur claimed that since the lane was carved out of his personal land, it could not be termed "public".
He alleged that Garg and his family had almost closed down the main access to their bungalow and used the "illegal" gate to enter and exit.
Illegal construction
The 80-year-old alleged that his neighbour had also given shelter to miscreants who carried iron roads and axes and used his compound to commute. Moreover, he alleges that the plot owned by Pradeep Garg has 26 flats, which is an illegal construction, and even there is a sealing order against the plot but no action has been taken yet.
Service lane
"My ancestors are living in this locality for last 500 years and all the bungalows around our house is owned by our relative so we had made the service lane to commute among our self but after they have broke into the wall and opened the gate they have started entering my compound. No government report says there is a street it is always a part of my property."
Moreover, Brij Raj alleges that he has registered himself to senior registered cell but after his neighbour break into his house on September 26 no one beat constable has ever visited his house.
